Weekly Comic Previews: September 24, 2008
September 23rd, 2008
Like with my rapid reviews, I am going to skip the long intros and just get right to the meat of the post. Ladies and gentlemen, your weekly previews start now!
Is it possible for Ed Brubaker to be any cooler? I don’t really think so, and this month, he is introducing a brand new villain to the Marvel universe: Lady Bullseye. I know you may be think that it sounds kind of lame, like Supergirl or Spider-Girl or any of the many other female equivalents to our favorite heroes (for the record, I actually think that the female counterparts are very cool and interesting, but their names are pretty unoriginal). But this is untrue. Brubaker has crafted an all new character that apparently has a very deep and intricate past, which he will explore in the next arc of Daredevil, as he continues to make that one of the best Marvel books.
More previews after the break!
Oh thank *insert deity here*!!! We are done with the Secret Invasion tie-in and Ms. Marvel, and more important Brian Reed, can break back into good, original adventures. If memory serves me (sorry that I have to guess. Marvel’s description of this issue is…lacking), the next arc is going to explore Ms. Marvel’s past. I am pretty excited for this. Reed’s best work on this series has been when he explores Ms. Marvel’s psyche and what makes her the semi-crazy person she is today.
Yay for Soleil! Marvel’s partnership with the leading European comic book publisher has, in my opinion, proven to be a complete success. So far, with Sky Doll and Universal War One, I have been not only impressed, but blown away! Add this consistent awesomeness to samurais and you have an instant win in my book.
FINALLY!!! Does anyone even remember what this series was about? Something to do with the Scarlet Witch getting killed. So, reread the last 4 issues and then pick up Ultimates 3 #5 tomorrow, cause I am sure that this series is going to have some sort of lead into Ultimatum.
The end of the Death of Captain America mega-arc is here! Will we finally welcome Bucky as our new Cap? I sure think so. Brubaker has done an amazing job of making Bucky into the new Cap, but still making him different enough to keep the memory of Steve Rogers alive. I love the “whole new Cap” thing and I hope this series sticks around for a long time.
For my “indie pick of the week”, I think you should all check out Dead Ahead, coming out from Image. All I’ll say is that it involves zombies on a cruise ship. I think that pretty much speaks for itself.
So that is what I am looking forward to this week. What about you? Leave a comment and let me know what you think is going to be the best book of the week. And as always, visit that local comic shop to get these and more great books and HAPPY READING!!!
