post Weekly Comic Previews: July 30, 2008

July 29th, 2008

It’s that time of the week again when I tell you what to look forward to at your local comic shop (or at least what I am looking forward to. You can do whatever you want). Some interesting stuff this week, including Wolverine as an old man, a one-shot featuring Newuniversal, and those little kids with the big punch, The Power Pack, fighting some Skrulls. Here we go, comic previews coming at ya!

Wolverine #67

It’s been awhile since I talked about the Old Man Logan arc by Mark Millar that is going on in Wolverine right now, but let me say, it is still awesome and it IS finally coming out this week. It’s been over a month and this book as been delayed a couple of weeks, but trust me, it is going to be worth the wait. If you don’t remember (or didn’t read it; shame on you!), Old Man Logan takes place in the future with a - you guessed it - older Logan. Last month, we found out he was having money problems, was being bullied by Bruce Banner’s kids and goes on a road trip with a blind Hawkeye (ironic, I know) to deliver a package to the east coast to get money for rent. Two reasons why this book is awesome, if you couldn’t guess from the above description: Mark Millar is writing it and Steve McNiven is penciling it. Good enough reason for me to pick up a book.

Newuniveral: 1959

Warren Ellis has been busy writing one of the coolest comics out there right now in Newuniversal. If you don’t read it, you should check it out. It is really amazing. Spinning out of that series is a one-shot called 1959. This book will tell the backstory of the “incident” that happened in 1959 that caused a generation of superheroes to emerge (who were subsequently murdered by Phillip Voight). This should be an interesting one-shot and the writer, Kieron Gillen, was handpicked by Warren Ellis to write this one-shot.

Skrulls Vs. Power Pack #1

OMG. The Skrulls have infiltrated the Power Pack! I have to admit, I have been reading some of the Power Pack comics and even though they are slightly childish, they are a lot of fun and really well written. Not only that, but this arc not only takes place in the main continuity, but ties directly into Secret Invasion (seriously, through Secret Invasion on a title and I will probably read it. I am a sucker)! I look forward to reading this book to get more fun antics from these crazy kids.

That’s it for this week. Comment below on what you think is going to be awesome this week. Happy reading!
