Weekly Comic Previews: January 2, 2009
January 1st, 2009 -- mini-url
Happy new year, dear readers. Sure, tomorrow is Friday and many of us have to go back to work just one day before the weekend, but hey, comics come out tomorrow, so that’s good news, right? Apparently, releasing comics on Christmas Eve is not a problem, but New Years Eve is a different story. But I digress. Just in time to help you get over your hangover or the shock that it is suddenly 2009, here’s what you can look forward to when you make your trip to the comic shop this week.
Despite the unreliable release schedule, Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch‘s run on Fantastic Four has done nothing short of make Marvel’s first family interesting again. After the events of Death Of The Invisible Woman, issue 562 is about the funeral and presumably the wedding of The Thing to his teacher girlfriend, who may not be exactly who she says she is, as was set up at the beginning of Death Of The Invisible Woman. Expect this to be another great issue from this outstanding creative team.
Probably the most exciting release this week is probably Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillip‘s Incognito. The amazing creative team behind Sleeper and Criminal bring another dark crime drama comic book. The premise of this book is an ex-super villain is put in the witness protection program but cannot help but think about his days of crime. Can he resist the temptation of his old life? Read this book to find out.
Finally another issue of Kick-Ass. Again, Millar seems to struggle getting stuff out on time, but this book is worth the wait. Do you even need to hear about the plot? Just go and buy it!
Alright, so the War Machine arc of Iron Man left much to be desired, but I still have hope that the relaunch of this series into a War Machine only book will yield some interesting stories. If Greg Pak can bring some of his magic to this title, I think it’ll be a winner. Stay tuned.
I’ll finish things off with one more Mark Millar book (seriously, 3 books in one week? Spread them out MM). Old Man Logan continues this week. Again, don’t really need to talk this up. This is an amazing arc from a crazy awesome creative team of Millar and Steve McNiven. So just buy it!
That’s all folks. Don’t forget to get down to your LCS and pick up these and other great books. And happy reading!
