Inspired by Nick’s Rapid Review, I’m going to do an earlier version of the same type of thing, but I’m not sure if this will be re-occurring… we’ll see.

If you happen to be on peeing or in a hurry, this should do you well…

I’ve got a few lined up for you this week:

This, ladies an gents shall be fun…

**spoilers and the usual fun after the break**

Avengers/Invaders #4

Given last month’s issue, we see old Captain America and old Bucky escape, along with the original Torch and Toro. Last issue, Young Namor ran into the current Namor and ’supposedly’ beat him… this is proved wrong this month and the young Namor is sent back on his way. We see a run in with the old Cap and the current Cap/adult Bucky as old Cap and old Bucky try to escape from S.H.E.I.L.D. thinking they’re Nazis/robots. Current Cap/Bucky then takes old Bucky aside and the issue ends. Good stuff here this month and the strange yet oddly addicting story continues with Alex Ross and Jim Krueger telling this amazing story with interior art by Steve Sadowski. If you’re already reading, good choice; if not, go find the last three issues and start!

Wolverine: Killing Made Simple

Totally blowing your mind this month, writer Christopher Yost brings us a story of Wolverine that most writers of Wolverine don’t cover: How to kill Wolverine. This tale of how Wolverine is actually concerned for his life is one that had me wondering if it was just some lame one-shot ploy to sell a Wolverine title… until the plot turns at one point and Wolverine starts talking to New X-Men character Trance about how he really could die. In the end Wolverine–chained and worrying about his death–saves the day as he teaches Trance to not be scared of her powers and they end up kicking ass and beating the bad guys. Hooray! Good one-shot, worth the buy for sure.

Punisher War Journal #22

Part five of six of the Jigsaw arc in this series and for me all is so-so. The story is way good, and I love how everyone and everything is just bad ass (I mean, this is Matt Fraction writing, so it’s to be expected) but the art by Howard Chaykin is just killing me (I don’t care for it much). That aside, this month we see how close Matt Fraction and Rick Remender can get to finishing the Punisher off, but all goes astray when a sudden twist finishes off the issue and your mind is blown backwards out of your head. Look for some fun Punisher and G.W. Bridge interaction in this issue kids… it’s always soul-crushinly fun… I guess. Same as Avengers/Invaders, get this one while it’s hot along with the back issues (well, for this arc at least).

Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #2

The ever-so-stunning art of this title (Adi Granov) makes me giggle as to how awesome it is and boy-oh-boy writer/actor Jon Favreu is bringing the strange and unusual to this series. Switching gears from typical bag-guy with some quirk versus Iron Man, Favreu is bringing a very cool and old feel back to this series making it very interesting. This month we’re hit with a doozy of a twist: the golden statue for the new Golden Dragon casino is none other than Fin Fang Foom himself! I was skeptical of this series at first but it’s obvious that this series can only be good from here on… then again, I’m a sucker for stories with Fin Fang Foom. Another title that get’s my approval this week, so go get it along with the previous issue!

Invincible Iron Man #4

The story of old-skool Iron Man foe Ebidiah Stane’s son continues this week with what I thought was a bit of a weak plot turn. This month, Tony Stark figures out that Zeke Stane can only build off of old Stark tech; therefore Tony decides to put some of his old gear on the black market–along with a barely noticeable tracing virus of some kind–which he hopes will, in turn, lead S.H.E.I.L.D. and himself to Zeke. Of course, this plan works in the end of the issue and I bet you can guess what’s happening next month! Yea… not that fun. I mean, I’m hoping next month will have a cool fight between Zeke and Iron Man so I guess filler issues are necessary… Also, the sub-plot with Pepper not wanting the cool Iron Man ‘light’ in her chest allowed for a bit of a ‘tiz’ between Tony and Pepper. And speaking of the ‘light’, we see Maria Hill, Sub-director of S.H.E.I.L.D. asking why Tony/Stark Industries was holding back such technology from S.H.E.I.L.D.. Overall, it was a mediocre issue, but I wasn’t too into this series to begin with, so maybe pass on it, this month.

Hulk #5

Since this series started, I’ve been baffled. Jeph Loeb has just been blowing my head wide open each issue and this month is no different. Given last month’s monster battle between Red Hulk and Green Hulk and the fact that green Hulk lost is making me seriously wonder who in the hell this Red Hulk could be. Obviously, Loeb isn’t willing to tell anyone anytime soon and artist Ed McGuinness isn’t drawing him too different from the Green Hulk so we may not know for a long while. That aside, this month’s issue was just astounding. After dropping Green Hulk into the San Francisco bay, Thor shows up to lay down the law, but what the strange thing is, Thor loses. He really loses, but Red Hulk doesn’t kill him. You gotta read it to believe it. Following this crazy battle (in space! really!), A-Bomb comes out of no where to help the recovering Green Hulk and they vow to destroy Red Hulk. I’m effing excited, how about you?

And that’s this month’s Weekend Whiz. Hopefully I’ll find some time to do another one of these suckers… maybe with a few more comics.
