It’s that time of the week again when I tell you what to look forward to at your local comic shop (or at least what I am looking forward to. You can do whatever you want). Some interesting stuff this week, including Wolverine as an old man, a one-shot featuring Newuniversal, and those little kids with the big punch, The Power Pack, fighting some Skrulls. Here we go, comic previews coming at ya!
Wolverine #67
It’s been awhile since I talked about the Old Man Logan arc by Mark Millar that is going on in Wolverine right now, but let me say, it is still awesome and it IS finally coming out this week. It’s been over a month and this book as been delayed a couple of weeks, but trust me, it is going to be worth the wait. If you don’t remember (or didn’t read it; shame on you!), Old Man Logan takes place in the future with a – you guessed it – older Logan. Last month, we found out he was having money problems, was being bullied by Bruce Banner‘s kids and goes on a road trip with a blind Hawkeye (ironic, I know) to deliver a package to the east coast to get money for rent. Two reasons why this book is awesome, if you couldn’t guess from the above description: Mark Millar is writing it and Steve McNiven is penciling it. Good enough reason for me to pick up a book.

It is Tuesday again and you know what that means: it is time to preview the comics coming up this week. It’s a bit of a slow week again but that doesn’t mean you should skip the local shop this week. There is one biggy that you should definitely go out and pick up this week: Uncanny X-Men #500!
Seriously, this is a pretty big deal. I mean, round numbers tend to be a big deal, right? But beside the cleanness of the number 500, there is a lot of awesomeness going on in Uncanny right now that makes this issue a big one. First, this is the first issue that has the X-Men in San Francisco, their new permanent home. Second, we are wrapping up the previous arc, which is always fun. However, don’t expect much action in this issue, other than setting up the next arc. The main baddies from this arc were pretty well taken care of last month. And the last reason you should pick this up: it’s a double size issue!
Oh wait! Did I forget to mention that we have new writers, too? I did? Oh, well, shit, guess what, the amazing team behind Immortal Iron Fist is taking over! Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker are sure to blow our collective minds with their outstanding writing.
Simply stated, this is probably going to be the best comic of the month and if you are an X-Men fan, you probably already have it reserved. If not, stop reading this and call your local comic book shop to make sure they have a copy for you! I guarentee this one will sell out.

A little slow this week in releases from Marvel. However, there are a couple of noteworthy releases that I am looking forward to and you should be, too.
First, the second Marvel release from European publisher Soleil entitled Universal War One starts its 3 issue mini-series this week. The major reason I am excited for this one is due to the quality of Sky Doll, the first Marvel release of a Soleil comic. I thought that Sky Doll was going to be good, but I didn’t expect it to be as awesome as it really is. I can only expect the same high-standards from their second release. And this one is a little more aimed toward the typical comic audience. The basic plot as I understand it is there is a war between planets and some sort of black hole-ish wall has formed in the solar system. Sounds pretty epic. And if you are scoffing at the $5.99 price, remember that the Soleil comics are almost double the size of the American comics.
The other release I am looking forward to is the end of the aforementioned Sky Doll. I cannot say enough how much this series impressed me. The art is beautiful and unique and the story is completely out there while still being amazingly immersive. I am excited to see how this series is going to end. I really am amazed that they ended it in only 3 issues, as the story is just getting good. But hopefully there will be a nice conclusion.
Oh yeah, and I can’t forget about Mighty Avengers #16. Look forward to more Bendis goodness as he tells more Secret Invasion backstory of how our favorite heroes became Skrulls. This month focuses on how Elektra, the first Skrull revealed to us, came to be. Seriously, New and Mighty Avengers are almost as good as the main Secret Invasion storyline at this point. Bendis is doing such a great job creating a well-rounded story by including these little flashbacks to fill in the gaps.
That’s it for my weekly previews folks. Don’t forget to visit your local shop tomorrow and pick up the latest releases. Happy reading!
