Joss Whedon, director of "CHUD 2099"
As you’ve no doubt already read on Twitter, Facebook, various RSS feeds, and half the Internet at large, Joss Whedon is in final talks to direct Marvel’s upcoming “Avengers” movie, slated for release May 4 2012.
Whedon is, of course, well known for his various Whedonverse series’, as well as his runs on Astonishing X-Men and Runaways. Rumors abound of his potentially reworking the Avengers script to some extent, as well.
Geeks are rending their shirts like pre-pubescent Beatles fans. I, for one, am one part excited, one part hedging my bets completely.

Beginning my 4-part series on favorites, I’m beginning with the number one question any comic book fan will ask you: What is your favorite super hero? But as soon as you answer, the person asking will then ask you why? I mean, what does one gauge his response on: physical powers? Keen detection skills? The ability to banter well with super villains?
Picking your favorite super hero can be as easy as Emma Frost or as tough as the metal that lines Wolverine’s bones, but nevertheless I’m sure everyone has a favorite and my guess is they have a damn good reason for picking who they picked. It’s always a fun thing to sit down and discuss your favorite super hero and that’s exactly what I want to do.
So, to begin things I want to start with my favorite super hero of all time: Gambit.

As I slowly dip into more recent comics to pad out my endless list of must-buy classics, a few big names constantly crop up. Mark Millar is one of those names. In an attempt to both get into his stuff and try to somewhat get a handle on Marvel’s continuity so I could read Secret Invasion, I read Civil War, which I went on record as having liked it but not been wowed. Then I read the Superman Elseworlds tale Red Son, which is savagely brilliant. My interests finally piqued, I started picking up back issues of the titles he’s put out this year, which is no small task since the man apparently isn’t bothering to sleep or eat given the number of issues he’s written. Now that I’m finally caught up, let me try to explain why Mark Millar deserves every drop of praise he’s getting.
