post Tuesday Twist-off — at the speed of an IBM computer!!

So kiddies. This last week was a tiny one for Marvel and since I’m a biased little boy and read primarily Marvel titles I was a bit sad. Nevertheless, Image had some big stuff as did Avatar press: Invincible #53 (which I didn’t get due to some BS with Diamond), Four Eyes #1 and No Hero #1. So I was happy there.

Even still, there were 2 Marvel titles that caught my eye that no one else called for review and here they be for ye:

A small week, yes, but let’s proceed. I’ll indulge you with some coolness.

post Secret Invasion: The story so far

October 6th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: recapNick Wreden @ 10:23 am

Hello everybody and thanks for checking out my first article here at Destroythecyb.org! Back in July 2007, New Avengers #31 revealed that the Hand had been infiltrated by the alien race know as the Skrulls and Danny Rand asked the question, “What does this all mean?”

One year later, it all comes together in Brian Michael Bendis‘ new series, Secret Invasion. While it’s only been a few months, this truly epic saga is so vast that, before I review the latest issue, I’m going to bring everyone up to speed on the whole series.

After the break, my synopsis of the Secret Invasion plot so far. Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS.

post True Believers #2 review — strange and amazing

True Believers #2 cover

My guess is that if you did a word search in my posts/reviews/whatever for the word “amazing” you’d probably find about 600 occurrences of said word. With that laid out, I’d like to say that I was extremely excited to read this month’s issue of True Believers. It feels like only last week that issue 1 was out and I was ranting and raving at how cool of a series it was and that it took a nice twist at the end and thus confirming it’s place in the Marvel Universe. Oh yes, it feels like just last week.

Lucky for us, the fun doesn’t stop. Ohhh no. This month’s issue punches right into the face of everything and mystery-book-type plot is unfolded right before your very eyes. But before I get to the story, let’s break this post and kick things the way we usually do:

post Secret Invasion: Inhumans #1 review

Secret Invasion: Inhumans cover

Secret Invasion: Inhumans cover

Holy ba-jeezus guys. This week is cram-packed with FIVE Secret Invasion titles and of all of them, I’ve decided to start with Secret Invasion: Inhumans #1. Boy-oh-boy this first issue is one that had me turning pages at near-rip-rate.

The last time we heard from the Inhumans, as a people not just Black Bolt, was in Silent War–a six-issue mini-series depicting exactly what happens when you mess with the Inhumans. The story begins in the aftermath of House Of M (Decimation) where Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff) gets away with the Inhumans’ source of power: the Terrigen crystals. Now, the Inhumans aren’t too happy with good ol’ Pietro and deicde to come after him. This ends up in a full scale war between the United States government and the Inhumans. The ending is simply this: Black Bolt loses this war in the eyes of his people and his brother Maximus becomes king of the Inhumans.

From here, we see Black Bolt a few more times in New Avengers: The Illuminati and in the most recent (I assume the last issue involving this whole group) Black Bolt is found to be a Skrull! And this is where Secret Invasion: Inhumans begins.

post True Believers review — it was simply incredible

July 30th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: Review, spoilersMike Rapin @ 9:30 pm

Are you a blogger? Have you ever blogged? Well, then I believe that True Believers #1 (titled “Payback is a Bitch” which is just funny for reasons you’ll see if you read on) from Marvel comics would be just right for you. The story of underground bloggers who are dead-set at taking a stab at karmic justice by uncovering the ununcoverable stories and then blogging about it from their ‘untraceable proxy server’ debuts this month and it was nothing short of spectacular.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this title, as I don’t think it was highly promoted, but I was simply amazed at how great of a first issue True Believers #1 was and for that reason I highly recommend it.
