post April 2009 Comic Book Solicitations

January 22nd, 2009 -- mini-url

Wow. Usually, solicitations are the typical new issues of a series. Sometimes they are the start of an exciting arc, but mostly, there’s not a lot to get excited about. The few new series or mini-series are what are usually most exciting. This month, the comic book publishers (mostly Marvel) decided to pull out all the stops and bring out a bunch of really interesting stuff. Seriously, this post is going to be really long, as I have a lot to feature. So sit back, grab a drink and get ready to find out what comics are going to be making headlines as the weather starts to turn warm again.

It’s been a while and frankly I have no excuse. Tuesday Twist-offs were much easier when I had more time and I really don’t have as much as I did when we first started this site. Even though it’s not Tuesday, I’m putting this out.

With that said, I’ve got a few gems for you people this week along with a mini-rating system (and yeah,’you people’ is pointing out the demographic you are in).

My rating system is simply x/10 Twist-offs, so keep up. And five comics works, right? I guess we’ll see…

post Rapid Reviews: Mark Millar Is Better Than You

September 17th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: Rapid Reviews, marvelJake Cole @ 1:26 pm

As I slowly dip into more recent comics to pad out my endless list of must-buy classics, a few big names constantly crop up. Mark Millar is one of those names. In an attempt to both get into his stuff and try to somewhat get a handle on Marvel’s continuity so I could read Secret Invasion, I read Civil War, which I went on record as having liked it but not been wowed. Then I read the Superman Elseworlds tale Red Son, which is savagely brilliant. My interests finally piqued, I started picking up back issues of the titles he’s put out this year, which is no small task since the man apparently isn’t bothering to sleep or eat given the number of issues he’s written. Now that I’m finally caught up, let me try to explain why Mark Millar deserves every drop of praise he’s getting.
