Mondo Marvel Panel

Mondo Marvel Panel

Hey everyone, Mike here reporting from Chicago. Nick and I covered some panels today, so look out for his DC Nation post sometime soon.

Today, though, I hit up the Mondo Marvel panel featuring Jim McCann, Mark Paniccia, Dan Slott, Jason Aaron, Sean McKeever, Chris Yost and Craig Kyle. There was a little bit of information at this panel, just a bit more than the Ultimate’s panel, but nonetheless it was informative. I took notes on my iPhone so if I missed some small stuff, I’m sorry.

The convention covered a bunch of things, but I’ll just spit it to you as I got it:

Dan Slott featured a teaser for his arc that will be coming up in Amazing Spider-Man featuring none other than Mysterio! (But I thought he was dead?! Oh wait, this is Marvel mwhahaha). This should be showing up around issues #618 or #619.

Paul Toben and Patrick Scherberger will be putting out a 4 issue limited series called Spider-Man and the Secret Wars–yeah, from way back then–which will cover a bit of retelling of Spider-Man’s place in Secret Wars and his view of things.

More after the break

post Moon Knight #24

Two grown men playing 52 card pickup

I’m a big Marvel fan, though you wouldn’t know it by my previous DC based reviews.

Moon Knight #24 came out last week, guest starring the Thunderbolts; I’ve been a T-Bolts follower since their inception, and I really like their current line-up and story line, so I figured “Let’s give Moon Knight a shot!”

Gentle reader, I warn and beg you! Please learn from these, my mistakes.

Please proceed to read on after the break.

Mystic Arcana: Sister Grimm cover

Reintroduced to the Marvel Universe in Mystic Arcana is Ian McNee, the teenage magic prodigy created by Roger Stern and Charles Vess.  He made his first and last appearance in Marvel Fanfare #7 where he challenged Dr. Strange for the title of Sorcerer Supreme, to which he faced a humiliating defeat.

In Mystic Arcana, Ian has a vision that starts him on a quest to retrieve four mystic items – the Sword, the Rose, the Crown and the Mirror – to restore the spirit of the ancient Egyptian Sorcerer, Heka-Nut and then begin to repair the structure of Magic itself.  These artifacts are known as The Cornerstones of Creation.

post Kick-Ass #4 review

Kick-Asss #4 cover

Kick-Ass #4 cover

Bwaaaaaaah! I am Mike Rapin! I’m a friggin’ zombie!!! Bwaaaaah! Aren’t you scared of me?!

You may be confused as to why I am a zombie (man, I have a sudden hunger for brains), but you can blame that bastard Mark Millar for killing me with his sheer genius. The most recent issue of Kick-Ass (#4, for those of you counting) really did a number on my flipping skull to the point of killing me. Oh yea.. I’m effing dead and unless Dr. Strange or Brother Voodoo is coming to save me, I’m not quite sure what will become of me…

But back to the comic: John Romita Jr.’s art had me drinking blood all throughout this issue. His art tells almost as much story as the friggin’ dialogue. I absolutely love it. And, if you haven’t gotten it yet, the story is so compelling, if you read it, you will (most likely) die and become a damn zombie. It’s a good trade-off if you ask me.

post True Believers review — it was simply incredible

July 30th, 2008 -- mini-url

Are you a blogger? Have you ever blogged? Well, then I believe that True Believers #1 (titled “Payback is a Bitch” which is just funny for reasons you’ll see if you read on) from Marvel comics would be just right for you. The story of underground bloggers who are dead-set at taking a stab at karmic justice by uncovering the ununcoverable stories and then blogging about it from their ‘untraceable proxy server’ debuts this month and it was nothing short of spectacular.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this title, as I don’t think it was highly promoted, but I was simply amazed at how great of a first issue True Believers #1 was and for that reason I highly recommend it.

post Future comic book reads

July 9th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: randomMike Rapin @ 7:01 pm

I don’t know what it is, but whenever I see Nick blogging, I always feel the need to blog. Nick, do you feel the same way? haha

Anyways, my real post:

I haven’t read any comics in a few days (I finished my weeklies on Saturday) and it’s because 1) I’m lazy, 2) My girlfriend is around and 3) I’ve been way too tired to read (those are in no real order). But I want to let you guys know what I’m looking forward to read that I will (hopefully) be getting too in the near future and will, in turn, blog about. Most of this stuff is just what I’ve gotten a hold of and just want to read for fun and has no dealings with continuity or major plots or anything. Just fun stuff in vague/very interested sumary:

1. Squadron Supreme/Supreme Power v2
Seeing that I’m a die-hard Marvel Ultimate-universe fan, I need to read this series to get Ultimate Power and the new Squadron Supreme series that just came out. Now, the Squadron Supreme/Supreme Power series that I’m talking is NOT the series that ran into the Avengers way back when, but instead is the series totally off on its own that Marvel decided to have intertwine with their Ultimate universe (which I haven’t read yet, so shh!). But I’m really excited for this series. I’m 7 issues in and I have almost everything–except Dr. Spectrum–to read in trade paperback form. It’s obviously at the top of my list.
