March 3rd, 2009 -- mini-url

In December 2008, Marvel released a new series written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Dennis Calero entitled X-Men Noir. Now I haven’t read Marvel in quite some time, but this concept provoked me to pick up the first issue. Needless to say I wasn’t dissappointed. The art by Calero was sharp. He captured the black and white tones of the 1940′s film noir in full color, only highlighting pieces of the panel to stand alone. You can practically see it come to life. Van Lente’s story was a little hard to follow at first, moving quickly from scene to scene, but the artwork made it enjoyable for the second read. Together they create a wonderfully “dynamic-duo.”

 Amazing Spider-Man #579 cover
I’ve noticed in the last, oh I don’t know, 12 or so issues of Amazing Spider-Man that each issue is building something. Each issue is adding some kind of minor or even major subplot or character or something to this unforeseeable and grandiose fortress that is the Spider-Man world and frankly I love it.
This week’s issue is no different.
If you haven’t been reading, last week Peter Parker found himself in the middle of an attempted mass-murder of a jury who would most likely convict a mob boss via a collapsed subway. All this was orchestrated by, if you haven’t seen this month’s cover: The Shocker.
But before I give out any more juicy details, we can break for the jump.

If you haven’t seen them, I’ve been writing a series on my favorite‘s and this week I am continuing on with something people don’t really talk about and usually someone wouldn’t really have a “favorite” of these types of characters, but I’m going bold and stating my favorite non-”super” character.
Now, I know this is kind of a gray area, because you could say Batman doesn’t have any powers or Iron Man doesn’t have any powers, but to me—and most people I’d say—those characters are “super.” What I’m describing here are characters like Ben Ulrich, or Lois Lane, or Alfred Pennyworth, or Pepper Potts—just characters who define so much in comic books but are just normal people and I’m trying to focus on characters that aren’t main characters. I just want to make sure everyone gets what I’m trying to say.
With that said, I have to declare my favorite Non-”Super” comic book character: J. Jonah Jameson.

 Marvel 1985 #5 cover
I’ve never read a comic book so fast in my life until I got Marvel 1985 #5 today. This month’s issue is seriously a weird one. Given, that it’s Mark Millar it’s golden and amazing but maybe something of unpolished good. Let me just say Mark Millar and Tommy Lee Edwards are a duo that have more power than any of us could imagine.
If you get my drift as to how this issue was, read on for some more fun stuff and a bit more of my understanding of this issue and my “how the hell is this going to end” predictions… this issue lead into a lot of things that… well they blew my mind.
