Captain Britian and MI: 13 Cover
Captain Britain and MI: 13 started off at a fairly odd place in the Marvel universe. It seems strange to me that they would choose to start a series like this in the middle of Secret Invasion. However, things couldn’t have been better. Apparently, Marvel knows what they are doing. Imagine that. The SI tie-in was so well done and showed a completely different side of the Skrull invasion. And now, out of the tie-in, we get to see how the series holds up as a monthly.
This month’s issue was a bit of a setup for what is coming in the future of the series. There’s a lot of talking about who the team is and getting everyone together. In addition, we get the very important introduction of Blade to the series. Here’s hoping that he is here to stay.
After the jump, I’ll break down the writing and the art of the issue and let you know why this series is kicking ass post-Secret Invasion.

Deadpool #1 cover
When I read Cable & Deadpool back whenever (well, probably just after I read Civil War and all of the tie-ins) I was blown away at how amazingly hilarious Deadpool was, especially coupled with a character like Cable. Before I had read that series, I was on the edge with Deadpool. I had read a comic here and with him and he always seemed lame and too wacky to be even close to funny, but given Cable & Deadpool, I was hooked on the idea (and secretly hoping for it months before it was announced) that Deadpool was getting his own series. Mind you, this series is coming out of nowhere–as most comics containing Deadpool usually do–and right in the middle of Secret Invasion, but even still, Wolverine: Origins writer Daniel Way hit this first issue right on the nose with it’s great mix of comedy and well thought out story.

In case you happy-go-lucky kids are interested, I want to try and wrap up some of last week’s comics for you. Why? Because I forgot to do it on Sunday (Weekend Whiz) and mainly because I like to think in the back of my head that someone out there likes to read mini-reviews.
I want to cover a lot, so let me smear the boogers out of my nose real quick and get this instant-twist-off-winner series of reviews started before it’s over.
Lightning fast reviews for you:
And we’re off! Gotta love all those Secret Invasion stories!
**spoilers, as always, after the break**
