post My favorite super villain

October 15th, 2008 -- mini-url

The world of comic book super heroes is something we all can come together and say we love and we know that this world couldn’t exist without some kind of villain to be there and wrong was was already right. Just as a cop needs to catch a robber, a super hero needs to catch a super villain. To continue my series on favorites, I have to think to myself and wonder: Who is my favorite super villain?

Just as I did for my favorite super hero, I need to think of what I would judge my favorite super villain on. Is it his super power (because that is really what makes him “super”)? His ability to fight with this enemies? Why he is a villain and was it an accident? There are hundreds of factors that come into deciding who your favorite super villain is, and I know exactly what mine are and who my favorite is: Dr. Doom.

post Tuesday Twist-offs — Miss anything last week? (8/13/08)

August 19th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: Tuesday Twist-offsMike Rapin @ 9:44 pm

In case you happy-go-lucky kids are interested, I want to try and wrap up some of last week’s comics for you. Why? Because I forgot to do it on Sunday (Weekend Whiz) and mainly because I like to think in the back of my head that someone out there likes to read mini-reviews.

I want to cover a lot, so let me smear the boogers out of my nose real quick and get this instant-twist-off-winner series of reviews started before it’s over.

Lightning fast reviews for you:

And we’re off! Gotta love all those Secret Invasion stories!

**spoilers, as always, after the break**

post Astonishing X-Men #26 — it leads; it’s fantastic

Astonishing X-Men #26 cover

Oh Warren Ellis… you clever and exciting bastard.

After the somewhat jump-start beginning in Astonishing X-Men #25 last month, this month we readers are given another morsel of comic book greatness in Astonishing X-Men #26. At this point, what do you expect me to say? I am a monster X-Men fan and Warren Ellis does nothing outside of write this series in a mature and sarcastic way; something I haven’t seen for the X-Men in this series from any writer since I started reading comics (an exception goes for Wolverine because he’s always a smart ass).

With this month’s issue the X-Men continue their pursuit for the killer–who they call “Subject X”–who was the murderer of a few people (triploid DNA? wtf?) in San Francisco with evidence found smoldering last issue, to Chaparanga Beach .

post Astonishing X-Men #25 — a reaction/sum-up

July 3rd, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: Review, spoilersMike Rapin @ 1:34 pm

So yesterday I went and bought Astonishing X-Men #25 at my local comic shop. I bought it on my lunch break and didn’t have any time to read it yesterday, but this morning on the bus ride to work I managed to squeeze it in. Let me just say (before the jump) that Warren Ellis is amazing and he beats Joss Whedon any fucking day on Astonishing X-Men.

On the right here is a clip from the first page… we see Armor using Twitter. Hell yes Warren Ellis.

post Astonishing X-Men #25 – This week is gonna be awesome

July 1st, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: Weekly Previews, spoilersMike Rapin @ 4:41 pm

Guess what guys? Guess effing what? Astonishing X-Men #25 is coming out this week (7/2/2008), and guess who’s excited?

ME!

Seriously. And you want to know why I’m so excited? Well, let me answer just one more question for you: Because Joss Whedon is no long writing this series. Hell yes! Yea! Yea! Yea! I’m beyond excited and it’s because without Joss Whedon, this comic book will (probably) come out on a regular basis and with some sweet storylines because the one and only Warren Ellis taking over meaning that Armor, Beast, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Storm, and Wolverine (the line-up according to cover for this issue) are in for a friggin’ show for sure.

The amazing Warren Ellis, author of Transmetropolitan, Newuniversal/Newuniversal: Shockfront, and the Extremis arc of Iron Man, is going to be writing Astonishing X-Men and I can only hope for nothing less than an outstanding series with him backing it. The new series titled Astonishing X-Men: Second Stage. It’s supposed to be back in the continuity and I couldn’t be happier.
