Me being the Kirkman-loving fiend that I am, I picked this series up as soon as I could and read it every week as soon as I can (unless there’s a good X-title that comes out that week…), and the thing I simply love about Destroyer is it’s ability to just kick ass non-stop from page one to page 22.
If you don’t know what Destroyer is, know this: Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker have teamed up again (previous team-ups: Invincible #1-7), but this time it’s for Marvel’s MAX label and boy oh boy they take advantage of that “For Mature Readers Only” warning. Basing the story of this comic off of an old Timely Comics character, this story follows the last adventures of the character and it’s just amazing. For the sake of all that is awesome and spoilerrific, I’ll give a brief summary of the previous 3 issues after the break because this series is so good, I don’t even want to spoil basic plot points for you guys.

 Astounding Wolf-Man Volume 1
If there’s one thing I love about Robert Kirkman it’s that he loves to play to the old-school way of the super hero world. His characters (namely Invincible, Brit and Wolf-Man) all live in a world where super villains and super heroes are commonplace. It reminds me of old Marvel comics where people just dealt with super heroes and it was semi-realistic because who else was going to fight Dr. Doom or the Green Goblin or Magneto? Not to say that where Marvel is now is bad, because I really do like the realistic style the universe hits where people challenge the necessity of heroes because villains only seem to come around because of the heroes (ie. pre/post-Civil War comics).
But back to what were here for: The Astounding Wolf-Man Volume 1. Kirkman, with the art of Jason Howard, manages to squeeze this comic into the “universe” of Image comics (see also: Invincible, Brit, Dynamo 5) and it definitely works. He has a fairly original origin for Wolf-Man and it really had me hooked. Here and there it hits kind of an early-Invincible-cheeziness but nevertheless, it’s pretty damn good.

 True Believers #2 cover
My guess is that if you did a word search in my posts/reviews/whatever for the word “amazing” you’d probably find about 600 occurrences of said word. With that laid out, I’d like to say that I was extremely excited to read this month’s issue of True Believers. It feels like only last week that issue 1 was out and I was ranting and raving at how cool of a series it was and that it took a nice twist at the end and thus confirming it’s place in the Marvel Universe. Oh yes, it feels like just last week.
Lucky for us, the fun doesn’t stop. Ohhh no. This month’s issue punches right into the face of everything and mystery-book-type plot is unfolded right before your very eyes. But before I get to the story, let’s break this post and kick things the way we usually do:

 Marvel 1985 #4 cover
I picked up this issue, dying because of last week’s cliff-hanger, my undying love for Mark Millar (in a total “I’m a comic book nerd and I love your writing” way not any other) and because I knew I was jumping into straight madness. Millar left things at such a high suspense point I was really flying through this issue.
In this months issue, we see a skew of baddies and utter chaos ensue as things really do start to pick up even more than last month’s issue. We’re left with Toby and his dad in a van driving away with none other than The Lizard on top of their van trying to kill them. It’s simply amazing.
But the story continues and boy does it get good.

 Astonishing X-Men #26 cover
Oh Warren Ellis… you clever and exciting bastard.
After the somewhat jump-start beginning in Astonishing X-Men #25 last month, this month we readers are given another morsel of comic book greatness in Astonishing X-Men #26. At this point, what do you expect me to say? I am a monster X-Men fan and Warren Ellis does nothing outside of write this series in a mature and sarcastic way; something I haven’t seen for the X-Men in this series from any writer since I started reading comics (an exception goes for Wolverine because he’s always a smart ass).
With this month’s issue the X-Men continue their pursuit for the killer–who they call “Subject X”–who was the murderer of a few people (triploid DNA? wtf?) in San Francisco with evidence found smoldering last issue, to Chaparanga Beach .

A screencap of the Invincible series playing in iTunes
So I just finished reading Invincible #51 (because I’m cool and up to date on that series now–yea!) and I got an itch to go find some more Robert Kirkman/Invincible-related stuff when I stumbled upon the Invincible TV series website–it was in my history and yea. I was clicking around just making sure I didn’t miss anything on the site when BAM! I saw it was available on iTunes!
It turns out, the series debuted on July 22. How the hell did I forget that!? I mean, I blogged about it, I hyped it all up to my friends… I must be slipping in my old age… Nevertheless, I immediately got on iTunes (link opens iTunes) and bought the series.

I’ve been reading Immortal Iron Fist since the current series began and I have dug it a lot. It’s probably one of my favorite series right now (next to X-Factor and Invincible) and this week I was just blown away.
Given that Matt Fraction ended his run with issue #16–which I was dumb and somehow didn’t realize–I was a tad skeptical at how this new arc was going to take off. Lucky for me, it ended up being fucking amazing and it seriously blew my mind. From what I’ve been hearing from Comic Con in San Diego, Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker (who co-wrote the first 16 issues together) are saying their series is going to look lame compared to what is coming from Duane Swierczynski in the near future… Really with one issue in I can already see it getting amazing. (Although, I loved the tournament from Fraction and Brubakers run).

In case you didn’t know, I like Mark Millar. And since Marvel 1985 has been coming out monthly I have been creaming in my proverbial pants every month over how amazing this series has been going. The story is so suspenseful (in my mind) in that it just keeps you asking, “What could happen next?” Mark Millar knows how to keep you guessing and this title is an obvious example at how incredible his unpredictable stories are.
Let me give you more of my reaction after the break with some spoilers because I can’t explain how amazing this comic was without spoiling it all.

Guys and gals! Did you hear the news?! Amazing Spider-Man is coming out 3 times a month and we’re only on issue two of this month!! Holy moly! What kind of mischief is going to fall down upon our favorite webslinger this week? Part one of Kraven’s First Hunt titled “Breakdown” was quite out of nowhere, but that’s what makes it fun… right? Part two is this week and wowee I’m ready!
The craziness that happened last week with everyone’s favorite Peter Parker in the mix, the internet (aka Marvel.com) is saying that this week we are surely in for a treat! Spider-Man is on his way to having a whole slew of villains on his butt including Mr. Negative, Kraven, and our new mystery girl who is apparently “the person who is going to kill Spider-Man.” This story is nothing outside of straight up crazy!
