Yesterday, DC released their list of comics that are scheduled for October and today, Marvel followed suit with their own list. In the following post, I’ll break down for you some of the highlights of releases from DC and Marvel and why you should be excited for these releases. Get ready, cause here are the comics that you are going to be reading on those cool, Fall nights.

Ender’s Game #1

Marvel shocked me some time ago when I heard that they were going to be making one of my favorite Sci-Fi novels, Ender’s Game, into a comic book. True to their word, Marvel will be releasing Ender’s Game #1 on October, 8th. I really couldn’t be more excited for this. If you haven’t read Ender’s Game, I can tell you that it really will fit perfectly into a comic book. Also, based on Marvel’s success with turning literature into comics (i.e. Marvel Illustrated), you can expect this to be a really great book.

Superman

Over on the DC side of the pond, Superman is getting a major event starting this October. In Action Comics #870, Geoff Johns finishes up the current Brainiac arc, which is going to have some major revelations. Namely, the Kryptonians will be released from Brainiac’s prison. Then, continued the next week in Superman: New Krypton Special, Geoff Johns, James Robinson and Sterling Gate start New Krypton, which is going to be a 9 part Superman event. Suddenly, Superman has to deal with 100,000 Kryptonians living on Earth. This then continues the following week in Superman #681. After October, this event will switch back and forth between Action Comics and Supergirl. This is going to Superman series that defines the next few years in Superman. You won’t want to miss it.

Batman #681

Speaking of DC, Batman #681 finishes the R.I.P. arc. What is going to happen and what will it mean for the future of Batman? Only Grant Morrison knows, but you can bet it is going to be awesome. If you haven’t been reading this series, check out a couple of posts that I have made on this site and hopefully that will get you excited enough to want to read it. It is really good.

March on Ultimatum Saga #1

Probably not the most important release of the month, but Marvel is getting you prepped and excited for the upcoming Ultimatum event in the Ultimate Universe by putting out a compilation of the events that have lead up to Ultimatum. Think of it as a clip show to get your prepared.

Ultimate Annuals

While we are on the subject of the Ultimate Universe, there’s a trifecta of Ultimate Annuals coming out in the last 2 weeks of the month. Ultimate Captain America Annual and Ultimate Hulk Annual are a little strange, in my opinion, but will probably feature stories that will lead up to Ultimatum, considering that series is playing heavily into the Ultimates. However, Ultimate Spider-Man Annual is going to be so amazingly kick-ass. According to Brian Michael Bendis at Wizard World Chicago, Peter and MJ are going to be facing their toughest battle yet: teenage sexual awkwardness. Finally, someone willing to write a story about teens having sex. Be sure to check out this issue, as it is sure to be ground breaking and probably really, really funny.

Ultimate Origins #5

To wrap up the Ultimate Universe, Ultimate Origins #5 will conclude that mini-series and leave us hanging before Ultimatum. According to Marvel, a lot of shit is going to go down and the Watchers are going to speak and say what is going to happen to the Ultimate Universe. What this is going to mean for the future of the Ultimate Universe, I have no clue. But you can bet we will get the answers when Ultimatum starts in November.

Captain America White #1

Jeph Loeb is bringing us the first issue of the next book in his acclaimed “color” series. If you read Captain America White #0, you will be already excited for this issue. If not, Jeph Loeb has crafted an awesome story about the origins of Bucky and you can expect it to be a really fun mini-series.

X-Men: Original Sin #1

All I’m going to say is this: this one-shot is going to set-up the X-Men event for the Fall. ‘Nuff said.

Astonishing X-Men: Ghost Boxes #1

Coming straight out of Warren Ellis‘ current arc on Astonishing is this 2-issue mini-series that explains more about Subject X and what will happen if the X-Men fail to solve the mystery.
