November 2008 Comic Book Solicitations
August 19th, 2008 -- mini-url
Ah, November. What a great month. Winter is starting to show it’s bitter head. You’re spending long days with your extended family. You’re stuffing yourself with way too much food, which you know you are going to have to work off after the new year. You’re starting to venture to the crowded malls, trying to buy expensive gifts for people you hardly know. Wait a second… November kind of sucks. Oh well, at least there are some good comics that you can look forward to. So treat yourself to some of the books I’ll be previewing after the break.
Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel #1
A super hero who hasn’t been seen since 1961 returns to fight his old nemesis who has suddenly come back. This is the concept behind Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel. I look forward to this book as it is introducing a new character and it is written by Kevin Grevioux, who has been doing a pretty damn good job on New Warriors.
Daredevil & Captain America: Dead on Arrival
What’s that? You say there is no Daredevil or Captain America story you haven’t heard? Well, you’ve got some nerve. And you’re probably wrong. Bring the tale by two of Europe’s top creators, Tito Faraci and Claudio Villa, Dead on Arrival brings together Daredevil and Captain America to investigate a presumed long-dead villain. This should be an awesome and unique team-up one-shot. Also, all the books that Marvel has brought from Europe have been amazing, so I expect no less here.
The entire description for this issue: “The story we had to call ‘A Fantastic Four Wedding And A Funeral’”. I have no clue what this means, but Mark Millar is still writing this series, so I am still buying it.
Marvel Illustrated: Kidnapped! #1
I have no idea what the book Kidnapped! is about, but I really don’t care. Marvel Illustrated books are so awesome that I will continue reading every new one that comes out. You should to.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting for this title to pop up on a solicitation list and it finally did today. I literally did a little jump in my seat when I saw it. This is going to redefine and revamp the Ultimate Universe. That should be enough to make you want to go out and buy this (that is, if you like the Ultimate Universe).
If you read this blog regularly, you know that I have a little place in my heart for Power Pack titles. Even though they are for kids, they are really well done, very funny and always entertaining. So, for those reasons, I am going to recommend Wolverine and Power Pack. How they are going to bring Wolverine into this kids book, I have no idea, but I have a feeling it is going to be hilarious.
Lately, I’ve had a bit of a thing for Batman. This is mostly because of Grant Morrison‘s R.I.P., but I have also been reading a bunch of old stuff, like Year One and The Killing Joke. Anyway, in November, DC is having writer/director/actor/genius Kevin Smith write a Batman mini-series called Cacophony. The plot really doesn’t matter. It’s Kevin Smith and it’s Batman. Now, hopefully it doesn’t get delayed…
Yay! Secret Invasion is going to be over. If that’s not reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is. But really, this is going to be an awesome issue. This issue should completely change the Marvel universe and will pretty much set up the next 2 years of stories, at least. So, you’ll probably want to read it. You know, just maybe.
The end of the War of the Symbiotes arc. Ultimate Venom vs. Ultimate Carnage. This should be pure gold, which, of course, Brian Michael Bendis shits. What, you didn’t know that?
Another Thor one-shot that will most likely be amazing. I mean, it is written by Matt Fraction, who has been providing us with amazing Thor one-shots all year. Sounds like this issue is going to be a giant battle between Odin and Thor. Hmm, that might be somewhat interesting.
Yep, you read that correctly, 2 Fantastic Four issues are scheduled for November. Reading the synopsis for this issue, it appears that the last issue was referring to The Thing‘s wedding to that teacher-whose-name-escapes-me. Oh, and apparently, Mark Millar is tying in his world from Marvel 1985. Yep, you heard me. I’m shocked, too. Damn you, Mike Rapin, for calling that one!
The aftermath of Secret Invasion has apparently left the Mighty Avengers broken and battered. Pick up this issue to find out what is going to happen to the team after Secret Invasion ends. Oh, and Marvel promises a shocking ending. Sounds exciting.

I’m gonna be on Cacophony like a fat kid on cake. I’m wary though, cause this is the first Kevin Smith comic that I’ll be reading as it comes out rather than sweeping in after all the delays and reading a trade without the bitterness of years-long delays eating away at me. But at least they made him turn in two of the three scripts before they even let Walt start drawing, so hopefully it all goes well.
