That crazy Scot is at it again! You know I am talking about Mark Millar. And what he is at is Fantastic Four #560. Somehow, despite having a ton of books out right now, he manages to pump out issue after issue of pure, comic book gold. This month’s Fantastic Four is no exception.

Last month (or however long it was. Delays are not fun), our fearless foursome had all kinds of craziness going on. Johnny Storm had just gotten captured by the New Defenders and he and Dr. Doom were all set up to power a out of commission Galactus. On top of this, the Richards have a new nanny that is not all of what she seems.

After the jump, I’ll explain why I have a man-crush on Mark Millar and how it seems like he has a much broader plan in mind for his books.

So, I have a man-crush on Mark Millar. Every issue of Fantastic Four that he writes is like a great, page turning novel. Each issue ends way too quick and you cannot wait to see what the next one brings. The last 2 issues have been really building to this issue, I think. There are a ton of reveals here and he starts dropping bombs from page one. Everything you had questions about is answered here and more questions are raised. And the end of the issue sets up perfectly for next month’s conclusion of the Death of the Invisible Woman arc and from what I have read in interviews and what this issue sets up, there is a possibility that Sue could die next month.

However, as I was reading this issue, I kept thinking back to a comment I saw some time ago on some website. The post talked about how the author thinks that Millar is going to tie his Old Man Logan arc in Wolverine with Fantastic Four and Marvel 1985. From this issue, which deals a lot with the future, you can totally see how this is possible. It seems that Millar is dealing a lot with futures and pasts. So either he is just really into that in his writing right now, or he is setting up something big for the Marvel U. Only time will tell as he continues to write jaw-dropping tales.

Art is great here again. Bryan Hitch can do no wrong in my book. I have commented a lot on the art in my previous reviews of Fantastic Four. There is a scene at the end of the issue that is of particular note, though. It involves a fight between the Invisible Women (no, that is not a type-o, it is plural…hint, hint). The full page spread is amazing and when you see it, you’re going to love it. I also really love the design of the panels in this issue. There are a couple pages where the panels seem to all be one frame, but are broken up into several boxes, making it seem like a camera is panning the same large scene. Brilliant.

So there you go. Another gushing review for a Mark Millar book. Sorry if you don’t like him, but I think everyone here at DestroyTheCyb.org loves his work and we’ll probably continue to write great reviews of his books. But if you do love him, go pick up this issue.
