post Off to Wizard World Chicago

August 5th, 2009 -- mini-url

Filed under: Convention, randomNick Nelson @ 9:33 pm

Well, folks, Mike, Jeff and I, as well as our friend Jared, are off to Wizard World Chicago tomorrow (Thursday, August 6th). We are all pretty pumped and ready to bring you some coverage from the con floor. So, keep an eye on the site this weekend and on our twitter account (@destroythecyb) as we will try to post tweets and blog entries as soon as possible. The lack of wi-fi in the convention center might make this a little difficult, but we’ll at least get the posts the we write up from panels up nightly for you.

So, what exactly will we be checking out at Chicago Comic-Con this year?

  • Ultimate Marvel Panel
  • Mark Millar Q&A
  • Mondo Marvel Panel
  • DC Nation
  • DC Sunday Conversation
  • Dan Slott Q&A
  • And so much more!

Along with those panels, we’ll also (hopefully) be attending 3 night time programming events. First is Shooting the Shit with Mark Millar and also the artists and writers parties. Not sure if we’ll have anything to post from those events, but perhaps we’ll get a writer or artist to slip on a big announcement!

If you’re going to be heading out to the con this weekend, let us know! Leave a comment on this post, or hit myself or Mike up on Twitter, via an @ or a DM at @nicknelson or @mikerapin. You can also @ or DM the @destroythecyb account.

So yeah… stay tuned! Should be an exciting weekend for us here at DTC!

post My letter got printed in Astounding Wolf-Man #17

July 6th, 2009 -- mini-url

Filed under: image, randomMike Rapin @ 11:48 am

Astounding Wolf-Man #17 coverI know this isn’t a review, and I know that writers throw letters in their books and such, but to me this is an incredible feeling. MY letter got printed in a comic book, and definitely one of my favorite books: Astounding Wolf-Man #17.

I’m pretty excited that Robert Kirkman answered my questions (see below) and other than that, I just wanted to share with everyone the fact that if you send a letter to a comic that prints letters, there is a chance it will get printed!

Thanks to Robert Kirkman and Image for printing my letter! I will definitely be writing to more comics (ie. Invincible, Amazing Spider-Man, Walking Dead, etc.) now!

My letter (part 1)

My letter (part 1)

My letter (part 2) -- Kirkman's response

My letter (part 2) -- Kirkman's response

Full letter pages after the break!

post A long absence, but good news.

February 9th, 2009 -- mini-url

Filed under: randomNick Wreden @ 11:05 pm

Hey guys! As you all may have noticed, I’ve not posted in a long time. My schedule has been nuts with college and my final days in high school, but I’ve been accepted and committed to Drexel University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!

The big update, however, is that this summer I’ll be attending Comic Con in San Diego with a press pass and a professional photographer. This story, of course, won’t come until later this year, so until then, feel free to shoot me an email at nickw@destroythecyb.org with requests on what you’d like to see!

post Micro-Reviews: A Short Description

February 4th, 2009 -- mini-url

Filed under: randomNick Nelson @ 6:25 pm

Hello all you loyal cyborg destroyers! Co-editor Nick Nelson here, bringing you the lowdown on our crazy new concept of Micro-Reviews. Who here follows us on Twitter? Alright, 1… 2… 3… ok, we need punch and pie for about 15 people. I kid, I kid. But seriously, if you are following us on Twitter (and why wouldn’t you be?), then you might have noticed that we are posting a bunch more lately. This is because we decided to start writing Micro-Reviews. What are Micro-Reviews, you ask? Well, Johnny, let me explain.

Basically, in 140 characters or less, one of the writers here at DestroyTheCyb.org is going to tell you what they thought of a comic they just read. The idea is to get an instant, quick and off the top of their head review of whatever they happened to read. Fun, right? So, when you are parsing through all the boring people on Twitter, look for our updates. You’ll know it is a Micro-Review because it will start with “[name]“. For example, if I was going to post a Micro-Review of Dark Avengers #1, I would tweet something like this “[Nick] Holy hell, Dark Avengers just blew me away. BMB just knocks this one out of the park.” That’s all there is to it! So follow us on Twitter and keep an eye out for our Micro-Reviews. And don’t forget to @reply us to tell us what you thought of the review or to tell us that we completely missed the point.

post Happy Thanksgiving

November 27th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: randomNick Nelson @ 5:04 pm

From all of us here at DestroyTheCyb.org, I just wanted to wish everyone in the US a very happy Thanksgiving. Whether you are spending time at home or traveling great distances to be with your loved ones, have a safe and fun holiday weekend. Expect the posts to be somewhat slow this weekend as our staff enjoys family time (including Uncle Joe passing out on the couch after 5 glasses of wine) and recovers from our own stuffing of our collective faces. We’ll return to our regularly scheduled madness on Monday. Enjoy the weekend!

post Future comic book reads

July 9th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: randomMike Rapin @ 7:01 pm

I don’t know what it is, but whenever I see Nick blogging, I always feel the need to blog. Nick, do you feel the same way? haha

Anyways, my real post:

I haven’t read any comics in a few days (I finished my weeklies on Saturday) and it’s because 1) I’m lazy, 2) My girlfriend is around and 3) I’ve been way too tired to read (those are in no real order). But I want to let you guys know what I’m looking forward to read that I will (hopefully) be getting too in the near future and will, in turn, blog about. Most of this stuff is just what I’ve gotten a hold of and just want to read for fun and has no dealings with continuity or major plots or anything. Just fun stuff in vague/very interested sumary:

1. Squadron Supreme/Supreme Power v2
Seeing that I’m a die-hard Marvel Ultimate-universe fan, I need to read this series to get Ultimate Power and the new Squadron Supreme series that just came out. Now, the Squadron Supreme/Supreme Power series that I’m talking is NOT the series that ran into the Avengers way back when, but instead is the series totally off on its own that Marvel decided to have intertwine with their Ultimate universe (which I haven’t read yet, so shh!). But I’m really excited for this series. I’m 7 issues in and I have almost everything–except Dr. Spectrum–to read in trade paperback form. It’s obviously at the top of my list.

post A long weekend for us

July 5th, 2008 -- mini-url

Filed under: randomMike Rapin @ 5:46 pm

Here at DestroyTheCyb.org, we’re taking a long weekend for the celebration of the 4th of July and to celebrate my friend still being alive after almost dying from an approximately 30,000 volt electrocution from a Jacob’s Ladder.

We should have more updates on Monday, but there is a chance we may feel suddenly inspired to post something later today or tomorrow.

Have a happy weekend.
